Those are feminine nouns whose meaning are very different.

Une ancre

"Une ancre" is the metal part that keeps a boat from moving while at sea.


  • Example : Les marins ont jeté l’ancre.

The sailors have dropped anchor.

De l'encre

"L'encre" is the substance used to write or print (ink).

  • Example : L’écolier a jeté de l’encre sur son professeur.

The schoolboy threw ink on his teacher.
