Types of Verbs in Georgian

The markers of the subject and the object both are exposed in the verb, as we already have seen.

There are four types of verbs in Georgian:

One-personal (with only a subject) intransitives[edit | edit source]

I go მივდივარ (მე) I come მოვდივარ (მე) The subject is always in the nominative case.

Two-personal (with a subject and direct object) intransitives[edit | edit source]

  • I know him/her ვიცნობ (მე მას)

The subject is always in the nominative case and the indirect object is always dative.

Two-personal (with a subject and direct object) transitives[edit | edit source]

  • I paint him/her/it ვხატავ (მე მას) – present tense
  • I painted him/her/it დავხატე (მე ის) – past tense

Three-personal (with a subject, direct and indirect object) transitives[edit | edit source]

  • I paint him/her/it for him/her ვუხატავ (მე მას მას)
  • I telling him/her it ვუამბობ (მე მას მას)
