Aa: [a]/[aː] as in father Ee: [e]/[eː] as in pet Əə: [ə]/[əː] as in sofa Iı: [i]/[iː] as in bee İi: [i]/[iː] as in bit Oo: [o]/[oː] as in more Öö: [ø]/[øː] as in German führer Uu: [u]/[uː] as in shoe Üü: [y]/[yː] as in German über

In North Azerbaijani, the vowel sounds can change depending on their position in a word, and whether they are short or long. However, these changes are usually predictable, and once you know the basic rules, you can pronounce any word correctly.

There are 21 consonant sounds in North Azerbaijani. Most of these consonants have the same pronunciation as in English or other European languages. However, there are a few exceptions, such as Çç ([tʃ]) and Ğğ ([ʁ]). Here are the North Azerbaijani consonant sounds:

Bb: [b] as in big Cc: [dz] as in adze Çç: [tʃ] as in chat Dd: [d] as in dog Ff: [f] as in five Gg: [ɡ] as in go Ğğ: [ʁ] as in French r or Jewish chutzpah Hh: [h] as in hot Jj: [dʒ] as in job Kk: [k] as in kite Qq: [q] as in Arabic qaf or Scottish loch Ll: [l] as in love Mm: [m] as in man Nn: [n] as in no Pp: [p] as in pen Rr: [r] as in Spanish perro Ss: [s] as in six Şş: [ʃ] as in she Tt: [t] as in ten Vv: [v] as in vein Zz: [z] as in zoo
