Family is an important part of Somali culture, and it is essential to know and understand the Somali words used to refer to family members. Immediate Family

Mother

The Somali word for mother is "hooyo" pronounced as (Haw-yoh).

Father

The Somali word for father is "abaah" pronounced as (Ah-baa).
