As an Armenian language teacher, I believe it is worth sharing some of the most famous Armenian actors, directors, and celebrities. The world of movie-making and entertainment is full of prominent personas that have Armenian roots. In this lesson, I will introduce you to some of them.

Armenians in the Movie Industry

Charles Aznavour

Charles Aznavour was a French and Armenian singer, lyricist, and actor. He was born in Paris to Armenian immigrants. Aznavour’s music career spanned over eight decades, and he appeared in more than 80 movies. His music and acting gained a huge following all around the world. Aznavour was a true ambassador of Armenian culture, and he took every chance he could get to highlight his Armenian roots.

Eric Bogosian

Eric Bogosian is an actor, playwright, and novelist of Armenian descent. Bogosian is best known for his solo performances and being a writer for films such as “Talk Radio”. He has appeared in several movies, including “Under Siege 2: Dark Territory” and “The Armenian Genocide”.

System of a Down

System of a Down is a popular American heavy metal band with Armenian heritage. The band was formed in 1994 in California by lead vocalist Serj Tankian, guitarist Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadjian, and drummer John Dolmayan. They have been described as a politically conscious group that deals with social issues like genocide and war. They are one of the most successful bands with Armenian roots.

Famous Armenian Actors and Celebrities

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is an Armenian-American media personality, actress, and model. She gained popularity after appearing in the reality TV show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” Kardashian has gained a massive following on social media, and she is one of the most recognizable celebrities in the world.

Serj Tankian

Serj Tankian is a singer, songwriter, and musician of Armenian descent. He is best known as the lead vocalist of the band System of a Down. In addition to his work as a musician, Tankian is also a political activist and has worked to promote human rights and democracy in Armenia.

David Hedison

David Hedison was an Armenian-American actor. He was best known for his roles in the James Bond film “Live and Let Die” and the science-fiction TV series “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea”. Hedison also appeared in several other movies and TV shows throughout his career.

Andrea Martin

Andrea Martin is an Armenian-Canadian actress, comedian, and writer. She is best known for her roles in the TV series “SCTV” and the movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. Martin has won several awards for her work, including two Emmy Awards.

Eric Esrailian

Eric Esrailian is a film producer of Armenian descent. He has worked on several critically acclaimed movies, including “The Promise,” which tells the story of the Armenian Genocide. Esrailian is also a philanthropist and has worked to promote health and education in Armenia.
