As a beginner in learning the Bulgarian language, introducing yourself can be quite tricky. In this lesson, we will learn the essential sentences and phrases to introduce yourself and ask simple questions about someone's name and nationality.

Basic Introductory Sentences

Let's start with some basic sentences to introduce yourself.

  • Здравейте, аз съм <your name>. (Zdraveyte, az sam <your name>.)
    Hello, my name is <your name>.
  • Радвам се да се запознаем. (Radvam se da se zapoznaem.)
    Nice to meet you.
  • Аз съм от <your country>. (Az sam ot <your country>.)
    I am from <your country>.

Asking for someone's name

To ask for someone's name, you can use the following sentences:

  • Как се казваш? (Kak se kazvash?)
    What's your name? (informal)
  • Как се казвате? (Kak se kazvate?)
    What's your name? (formal)
  • А ти/вие? (A ti/vie?)
    And you?

To reply with your name, use:

  • Аз съм <your name>. (Az sam <your name>.)
    I am <your name>.

Asking about someone's nationality

If you want to ask someone about their nationality, you can use:

  • От коя държава си/сте? (Ot koya darzhava si/ste?)
    Which country are you from? (informal/formal)
  • Ти/Вие си от къде? (Ti/vie si ot kade?)
    Where are you from?

To reply with your nationality, use:

  • Аз съм от <your country>. (Az sam ot <your country>.)
    I am from <your country>.

Tips

Here are some tips to keep in mind when introducing yourself in Bulgarian:
