Traveling in Turkey
Local Travel Tips
If you plan to use local transportation, such as buses or minibuses, keep in mind that they may not follow a strict schedule. You may have to wait longer than usual if the bus or minibus is full. It is also recommended to carry small bills and coins for your fare as not all buses and minibuses accept larger denominations.
Ticketing
If you plan to use buses, metros or trains, it is recommended to purchase a reusable Istanbulkart or BakiKart. These cards can be topped up with money, and they offer a discounted fare compared to buying individual tickets. You can find them in vending machines, kiosks or online.
Intercity Travel
If you plan to travel to different cities in Turkey, you can use buses, trains, or domestic flights. The bus network offers a broad range of routes that can take you to nearly every region of Turkey. Booking your bus tickets in advance is recommended during peak travel season. Trains are a good option, too, but they may not be available for all cities. If you plan to travel to a remote location, you might consider renting a car.
