Definition

This character is itself a radical. Originally, 而 was a pictograph of a beard, with the horizontal stroke 一 representing the mouth. Distinguish 而 from 西 xī, 两 (兩) liăng, 百 băi, 面 miàn, and 雨 yŭ.
