Adjective agreement with nouns — An adjective agreeing with nouns linked by de

The adjective may agree with the first or the second noun, depending on the meaning:

  • un groupe de chanteuses talentueuses

a group of talented female singers


  • une bande de voyous agressive

an aggressive gang of layabouts


  • des bains de mer fréquents

frequent dips in the sea


  • un geste de générosité déplacée

an act of misplaced generosity



NB: un/une drôle de can be used adjectivally meaning 'weird', 'strange'. Its gender is determined by the following noun: une drôle d'idée 'a strange idea', un drôle de type 'a weird bloke'.
