Kazakh Grammar - Pronouns

Hi Kazakh learners! 😊
In today's lesson, we will be discussing the use of pronouns in the Kazakh language. Pronouns are words that can be used to replace nouns in a sentence. They are an important part of any language and understanding how to use them correctly is essential for speaking and writing Kazakh fluently.

Personal Pronouns

Personal pronouns are used to refer to people or things. In Kazakh, there are two types of personal pronouns: subject pronouns and object pronouns.

Subject Pronouns

Subject pronouns are used when the pronoun is the subject of the sentence. For example:

  • Men - I
  • Sen - You (singular)
  • Ol - He/She/It
  • Biz - We
  • Siz - You (plural)
  • Olar - They

For example:

  • Men alıp baramın - I am going to buy it
  • Sen özini tanıyasıñ - You know yourself
  • Ol özini tanıyadı - He/She/It knows himself/herself/itself
  • Biz özimizdi tanıyamız - We know ourselves
  • Siz özimizdi tanıyasız - You (plural) know yourselves
  • Olar özimizdi tanıyadılar - They know themselves

Object Pronouns

Object pronouns are used when the pronoun is the object of the sentence. For example:

  • Meni - Me
  • Seni - You (singular)
  • Onı - Him/Her/It
  • Bizdi - Us
  • Sizdi - You (plural)
  • Olardı - Them

For example:

  • Meni alıp barasıñ - You are going to buy me
  • Seni tanıyamın - I know you
  • Onı tanıyasız - You (plural) know him/her/it
  • Bizdi tanıyadı - He/She/It knows us
  • Sizdi tanıyamız - We know you (plural)
  • Olardı tanıyasıñ - You (singular) know them

Possessive Pronouns

Possessive pronouns are used to indicate possession or ownership. In Kazakh, there are two types of possessive pronouns: singular and plural.

Singular Possessive Pronouns

Singular possessive pronouns are used when the pronoun is referring to one person or thing. For example:

  • Menim - Mine
  • Senin - Yours (singular)
  • Onıñ - His/Hers/Its

For example:

  • Menim alıp baramın - I am going to buy mine
  • Senin tanıyasıñ - You know yours
  • Onıñ tanıyadı - He/She/It knows his/hers/its

Plural Possessive Pronouns

Plural possessive pronouns are used when the pronoun is referring to more than one person or thing. For example:

  • Bizdiñ - Ours
  • Sizdiñ - Yours (plural)
  • Olardıñ - Theirs

For example:

  • Bizdiñ alıp baramız - We are going to buy ours
  • Sizdiñ tanıyasız - You (plural) know yours
  • Olardıñ tanıyadılar - They know theirs
