In today's lesson, we will be discussing the conditional mood in Panjabi. The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or an unreal condition. It is also used to express a wish or a desire. We will look at how to form sentences in the conditional mood and when to use it.
Formation
The conditional mood is formed by using the verb stem and adding the suffix ਤਾਂ/-ਤੇ/-ਤੀ/-ਤੇ to it. The suffix depends on the gender and number of the subject.
Masculine Singular
For masculine singular subjects, the suffix ਤਾਂ is added to the verb stem.
For example:
- ਪੜਦਾਂ - To read
- ਪੜਦਾਂਤਾਂ - If I read
Feminine Singular
For feminine singular subjects, the suffix ਤੀ is added to the verb stem.
For example:
- ਪੜਦੀ - To read
- ਪੜਦੀਤੀ - If I read
Masculine Plural
For masculine plural subjects, the suffix ਤੇ is added to the verb stem.
For example:
- ਪੜਦੇ - To read
- ਪੜਦੇਤੇ - If I read
Feminine Plural
For feminine plural subjects, the suffix ਤੇ is added to the verb stem.

Usage
The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or an unreal condition. It is also used to express a wish or a desire.
For example:
- ਅਗਲੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਮੈਂ ਅੱਜ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਨਾਲ ਗਿਆਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਆਨਕਾਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਤਾ - If I were to study with you next month, I would be happy.
- ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਗਿਆਨ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਆਨਕਾਰੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੋਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਤਾ - I would be happy if I were to study with you.
