Assamese is a language spoken in the Indian state of Assam. The state is known for its tea gardens, wildlife, and rich cultural heritage. In this lesson, you will learn how to tell time in Assamese, including phrases for hours, minutes, and common time-related expressions.

Numbers 1-10

Before we learn to tell time, let's review the Assamese numbers from one to ten:

  • কোন সময়? (kon somoi?) - What time is it?
  • সকালের কত বাজে? (sokaler kot baje?) - What's the time in the morning?
  • দুপৰ কত বাজিছে? (dupor kot bajise?) - What's the time in the afternoon?
  • সন্ধ্যাৰ কত বাজিছে? (sandyar kot bajise?) - What's the time in the evening?

To answer, simply state the time in the format mentioned above.

Here are some common time-related expressions in Assamese:

  • সবুজ ঘড়ি (sobuj ghori) - Green clock (refers to time before noon)
  • লাল ঘড়ি (lal ghori) - Red clock (refers to time after noon)
  • সায় বজে (sai baje) - 6 o'clock in the evening (a common time for social gatherings)
  • নিশা বজে (nisha baje) - Midnight
