Here is an example conversation using the transportation vocabulary:

Maria is traveling to Athens and needs to take a taxi from the airport to her hotel. She approaches the taxi driver:

Maria: Γεια σας! Μετακινούμαι στο ξενοδοχείο "Acropolis".

Taxi Driver: Ασφαλώς, κυρία. Πότε θα φτάσουμε;

Maria: Σε 20 με 30 λεπτά, παρακαλώ.

Taxi Driver: Καλά. Το ταξί σας περιμένει έξω.

Maria: Ευχαριστώ πολύ, κύριε.

Total cost: 20 ευρώ [e-v-ro]

Translation:

Maria: Hello! I need to get to the "Acropolis" hotel.

Taxi Driver: Of course, ma'am. When do you want to arrive?

Maria: In 20-30 minutes, please.

Taxi Driver: Okay, your taxi is waiting outside.

Maria: Thank you very much, sir.

Total cost: 20 euros

Practice

Now it's your turn to practice using the transportation vocabulary! Imagine you are traveling to Heraklion, Crete, and need to navigate your way around the city. Here are some questions and prompts to guide you:

  • How will you get from the Heraklion airport to your hotel?
  • What mode of transportation will you use to explore the city?
  • How will you ask for directions to the Knossos Palace?
  • What phrases will you need when taking a taxi?

Try to answer these questions incorporating the vocabulary and phrases you learned in this lesson. Don't be afraid to get creative and imagine different scenarios and conversations. The more you practice, the more confident you will be when you actually travel to Greece!
