The days of the week in Twi are based on the English calendar system.

Dudua /dʊˈdua/ Monday
Benada /bɛnˈada/ Tuesday
Wuku /wʊkʊ/ Wednesday
Yawoada /yaˈwoada/ Thursday
Fiada /fiada/ Friday
Memeneda /mɛmɛnɛda/ Saturday
Kwasiada /kwasˈiada/ Sunday

  • Mema Kwasiada. (I love Sundays.)
  • Yawoada be nni dodo. (Thursday is the fourth day.)
  • Me hu kwan yɛ Adukuwaa. (I was born on Wednesday.)
  • Dudua be yɛ hu yie. (Monday is a good day.)

A: Yɛn pɛ sɛ wobɛfa som kɔ Kumasi. (We want to travel to Kumasi on Saturday.)

B: Memeneda biara yɛn ho. (We have plans for Saturday.)


A: Wopɛ sɛ mene Busua foɔ? (Do you want to join me to Busua?)

B: Mepɛ sɛ menka ɛdɔm ara bebree. Me nni benada foforɔ. (I wish I could, but I'm busy this weekend. I have a Tuesday deadline.)

Did you know that the Twi name for Monday, "Dudua", literally means "the second day after Sunday"?
