In this lesson, we will be talking about colors! Learning the colors is not only important for daily conversation, it also helps to widen your vocabulary. Colors can be used to describe emotions, objects, places, and so much more.

Basic Colors[edit | edit source]

Let's start with the basic colors that you might already be familiar with. In Tagalog, colors are translated as "kulay".

Now, let's expand our vocabulary with other colors that are often used in daily conversations.

Using Colors in Tagalog Sentences[edit | edit source]

Now that we know the different colors, let's see how we can use them in Tagalog sentences. Here are some examples:

  • Person 1: Anong paborito mong kulay? (What is your favorite color?)
  • Person 2: Pula. (Red.)
  • Person 1: Anong kulay ng sapatos mo? (What color are your shoes?)
  • Person 2: Itim. (Black.)
  • Person 1: Ang magandang florist ay nagbebenta ng magagandang rosas. (The beautiful florist is selling beautiful roses.)
  • Person 2: Anong kulay ng mga rosas? (What color are the roses?)
  • Person 1: Rosas. (Pink.)

As you can see, colors are used to describe objects in Tagalog sentences.

Fun Facts[edit | edit source]

Did you know that in the Philippines, the colors yellow and orange are often associated with the famous Filipino fast-food restaurant, Jollibee? Their mascot is a bee with yellow and orange stripes. Also, the color red is often used during Christmas season and is often associated with the Parol, a traditional Filipino Christmas decoration.
