Language/Spanish/Grammar/Simple-Future-Tense
Hi everyone,
In Spanish, Simple Future Tense is used when you want to talk about something that will happen in the future.
In Spanish, there are two ways to express the Future:
infinitive verb + ending
and
ir + a + infinitive verb
"Infinitive Verb+Ending" Structure[edit | edit source]
In Spanish, this structure is a little more formal and generally it doesn't matter if the infinitive verb ends in "ar", "er" or "ir". You need to put the infinitive verb and add the corresponding ending with the subject. The next table will show you how you can add the corresponding ending with the subject using the verb "to drive" as an example.
Subject | Ending | Manejar |
---|---|---|
Yo | é | Manejaré |
Tú | ás | Manejarás |
Él/Ella/Usted | á | Manejará |
Nosotros/Nosotras | emos | Manejaremos |
Vosotros/Vosotras | éis | Manejaréis |
Ustedes/Ellos/Ellas | án | Manejarán |
Irregular Verbs[edit | edit source]
This structure has irregular verbs and always they are some verbs that end in er and ir. They change their base form and use the same endings. The next table will show you how you can conjugate the verb "to have" as an example.
Subject | Tener |
---|---|
Yo | Tendré |
Tú | Tendrás |
Él/Ella/Usted | Tendrá |
Nosotros/Nosotras | Tendremos |
Vosotros/Vosotras | Tendréis |
Ustedes/Ellos/Ellas | Tendrán |
And the next table will show you how you can conjugate the verb "to get out" as an example.
Subject | Salir |
---|---|
Yo | Saldré |
Tú | Saldrás |
Él/Ella/Usted | Saldrá |
Nosotros/Nosotras | Saldremos |
Vosotros/Vosotras | Saldréis |
Ustedes/Ellos/Ellas | Saldrán |
"Ir+A+Infinitive Verb" Structure[edit | edit source]
In Spanish, this structure is a litte more informal and first, you need to know how to conjugate the verb "ir". Remember in English this type of future is created with the verb to be + gerund but not in Spanish.
Subject | Ir |
---|---|
Yo | Voy |
Tú | Vas |
Él/Ella/Usted | Va |
Nosotros/Nosotras | Vamos |
Vosotros/Vosotras | Vais |
Ustedes/Ellos/Ellas | Van |
Example: Yo voy a comer.
