Overview[edit | edit source]

The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or a wish. It is formed by adding the appropriate ending to the verb stem.

Formation[edit | edit source]

The conditional mood is formed by adding the appropriate ending to the verb stem. The endings are as follows:

  • -iá for first conjugation verbs
  • -erí for second conjugation verbs
  • -irí for third conjugation verbs

For example, the verb parlar (to speak) is a first conjugation verb, so its conditional form would be parlariá.

Usage[edit | edit source]

The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or a wish. For example:

  • Si jo aviá una maquina del temps, anariá al passat. (If I had a time machine, I would go to the past.)
  • Voldriá que tu me parlariás. (I wish you would talk to me.)

It can also be used to express politeness when making a request. For example:

  • Podriás m'ajudar? (Could you help me?)

Conclusion[edit | edit source]

Now that you have a better understanding of the conditional mood in Occitan (post 1500), you should be able to use it correctly in your conversations.
