Northern Uzbek Vocabulary - Education

In this lesson, we will focus on the vocabulary related to education. As a Northern Uzbek language teacher, I understand that learning a language is not just about learning words and phrases, but also about learning the culture and traditions of the people who speak it. Education System in Uzbekistan[edit | edit source]

Before we dive into the vocabulary, let's take a quick look at the education system in Uzbekistan. Education is considered a top priority in Uzbekistan and the government has made significant strides in improving the education system. School education in Uzbekistan is mandatory for 9 years, starting from age 6 to 15. After completing primary education, students can choose between general secondary education or vocational education. In general secondary education, students study for 3 years in academic lyceums or professional colleges to receive a high school diploma.

  • Person 1: Шу вақтгача учунчиликка ёлғиз узага ўтиб ўқишни тергов қилдим. (I aimed for self-study for a while.)

Now, some interesting facts about education in Uzbekistan:

- Uzbekistan is the only country in Central Asia where secondary education is completely free. - Uzbekistan has one of the highest literacy rates in the region, with over 99% of the population being literate. - The Central Information Library in Tashkent is the largest library in Central Asia, with over 10 million books and resources. - Uzbekistan has partnerships with several countries, including Japan, South Korea, and Russia, to provide opportunities for students to study abroad. - The oldest university in Uzbekistan, the University of World Languages, was established in 1918.
