Fashion and Culture[edit | edit source]

Clothing is an essential aspect of culture and tradition in Uzbekistan. The national dress of Uzbekistan is a colorful, loose-fitting robe known as khalat. The khalat is traditionally made of silk or cotton and is adorned with embroidered patterns. Women's national dress usually consists of a headdress known as paranja, which covers the entire face, a long dress known as atlas, and wide, loose trousers called sharovari. Men wear long shirts and wide pants with a belt.

Traditionally, clothes in Uzbekistan were made by hand, and different regions of Uzbekistan would have their own unique clothing styles. Nowadays, modern Western-style clothing is also common in Uzbekistan, especially in urban areas.

Dialogue[edit | edit source]

Let's practice with a dialogue:

  • Person 1: Бу кепка мениге ҳам boldi? (Bu kepka менге ҳам boldi?)(Do you think this cap looks good on me?)
  • Person 2: Ҳайрли, шу бизнинг миллий бойфрендлар кепкалари (Hayrli, shu bizning milliy boyfrendlar kepkalari!) (Looks good, it's our national boyfriend's hat!).

In this dialogue, we learn the word "boldi," which means "good" or "nice." We also see the phrase "buzning milliy boyfrendlar kepkalari," which means "our national boyfriend's hat."
