Definition[edit | edit source]
Radical of the simplified form is 十 shí “ten”. Phonetic of the simplified form is 化 huà “change”. Radical of the traditional form is 艸 căo “grass” (as an independent word this is written 草). When it occurs as a radical at the top of a character, the “grass” radical is written as 艹 and is then known as 草字头 (草 字頭) căozìtóu “top made up of the character 草.” Distinguish simplified 华 from 化 and 花 huā.
