What is the Conditional Mood?[edit | edit source]

The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or a wish. It is used to talk about something that is not real or certain. For example, if you wanted to say "I would go to the beach if it was sunny", you would use the conditional mood.

How to Form the Conditional Mood[edit | edit source]

The conditional mood is formed by adding the suffix -tų to the verb stem. The verb stem is the part of the verb that remains after removing the infinitive ending (-ti). For example, the verb stem of the verb eiti (to go) is ei-. To form the conditional mood, you would add -tų to the verb stem, so the verb eiti would become eitų.

When to Use the Conditional Mood[edit | edit source]

The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or a wish. It is often used with the word jei (if). For example, you could say "Aš eitų į paplūdimį, jei būtų saulėta" (I would go to the beach if it was sunny).

It can also be used to express politeness. For example, you could say "Aš eitų su jumis, jei turėčiau laiko" (I would go with you if I had time).

Examples[edit | edit source]

Here are some examples of the conditional mood in use:

  • Aš eitų į kavinę, jei būčiau alkanas (I would go to the cafe if I was hungry).
  • Jie eitų į koncertą, jei būtų pigu (They would go to the concert if it was cheap).
  • Aš eitų su tavimi, jei būčiau laisvas (I would go with you if I was free).
