What is the Conditional Mood?[edit | edit source]

The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or an uncertain outcome. It is used to talk about what could happen if certain conditions are met. In Kannada, the conditional mood is formed by adding the suffixes -ರೆ/-ರು/-ರ್ಯಾ/-ರ್ಯೆ/-ರ್ಯು to the verb stem.

Here are some examples of sentences in the conditional mood:

  • ನಾನು ಹೋಗುವೆನು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವೆರೆ (If I go)
  • ನಾನು ಹೋಗುವೆನು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವೆರೆ ನಾನು ಕೊಡುವೆನು (If I go, I will do)
  • ನಾನು ಹೋಗುವೆನು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವೆರೆ ನಾನು ಕೊಡುವೆನು ಅದರಿಂದ ಸಂತೋಷವಾಗುವೆನು (If I go, I will do it with joy)

The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or an uncertain outcome. It can also be used to make polite requests or to express wishes.

Here are some examples of how to use the conditional mood:

  • ನಾನು ಹೋಗುವೆನು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವೆರೆ ನಾನು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವೆನು (If I go, I will work in my time)
  • ನಾನು ಹೋಗುವೆನು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವೆರೆ ನಾನು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವೆನು ಅದರಿಂದ ಸಂತೋಷವಾಗುವೆನು (If I go, I will do my work with joy)
  • ನಾನು ಹೋಗುವೆನು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವೆರೆ ನಾನು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವೆನು ಅದರಿಂದ ಸಂತೋಷವಾಗುವೆನು ಮತ್ತು ನಾನು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವೆನು ಅದರಿಂದ ಪಾಲಿಗೆ ಹೊಂದುವೆನು (If I go, I will do my work with joy and I will gain experience from it)
