Cell Phones
Cell phones are ubiquitous in India today.
There’s no proper Hindi word for them, they’re simply called cell phone or mobile.
The indispensible little gadgets even render themselves to insults: binā signal kā mobile—literally, cell phone/mobile without signal = idiot, dumbo, dimwit.
If you happen to hang out in shady, criminal company you may hear the word kauvā (crow) for a cell phone. A mobile is a gangster’s second-best friend—his best being his ghoṛā (horse) or pistol.
