Interesting facts[edit | edit source]

- Gujaratis are known to have large families, where it is not uncommon to have grandparents, parents, and grandchildren living all under one roof. These houses are known as "joint families" in India.

- The relationship between siblings is highly valued in Gujarati culture. Sisters, in particular, are considered to be very important, as they are often seen as the emotional support system for the family.

- In Gujarati language, the word for 'son' and 'daughter' can also mean 'child' in general. 'Putra' means 'son' and 'putri' means 'daughter', but they are also used as gender-neutral terms for 'child'.

- When addressing an older brother or sister, it is considered respectful to use the words 'dada' and 'didi' as opposed to their names. Similarly, 'bhai' is used to refer to a younger brother, while 'ben' is used for a younger sister.

- Family is an integral part of Gujarati weddings as well. The wedding ceremony typically involves the immediate family members of the bride and groom, and it is common for cousins, aunts, and uncles to also be present.
