Galician Education System[edit | edit source]

The Galician education system is similar to that of other Spanish-speaking countries. Below is a brief overview:

Primary Education[edit | edit source]

Primary education, or educación primaria, in Galicia consists of schooling from first grade to sixth grade, typically for children aged 6 to 12 years old.

Secondary Education[edit | edit source]

Secondary education, or educación secundaria, in Galicia is divided into two stages. The first stage, known as educación secundaria obligatoria, or ESO for short, is compulsory and lasts from seventh grade to tenth grade. The second stage, known as Bacharelato, or Bach for short, lasts from eleventh grade to twelfth grade.

Higher Education[edit | edit source]

Higher education, or educación superior, in Galicia is provided at universities, as well as at vocational and technical schools. Students can pursue a Licenciatura (bachelor's degree), a Posgrao (postgraduate degree), or a Tese de doutoramento (doctorate).

- Galician is one of the four official languages of Spain, alongside Spanish, Catalan, and Basque. It is spoken by approximately 2.4 million people.
