The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or a wish. It is also used to express politeness when making requests. In Faroese, the conditional mood is formed by adding the suffix -i to the verb stem.

  • Eg skrivaði eina bók, um eg hevði tíð. (I would have written a book, if I had time.)
  • Kann eg fáa ein kopp kaffi? (Can I get a cup of coffee?)

How to Form the Conditional Mood[edit | edit source]

The conditional mood is formed by adding the suffix -i to the verb stem. The verb stem is the part of the verb that remains after removing the infinitive ending -a.

  • Lesa (to read) → Lesi (would read)
  • Skriva (to write) → Skrivi (would write)
  • Siga (to say) → Sigi (would say)
