Grammar[edit | edit source]

To give an opinion in Dutch, you can use phrases like "volgens mij" (in my opinion), "naar mijn mening" (according to me) or simply "ik vind" (I find).

Here are some examples:

  • Volgens mij is Nederlands een mooie taal. (In my opinion, Dutch is a beautiful language.)
  • Naar mijn mening is het belangrijk om meerdere talen te spreken. (According to me, it's important to speak multiple languages.)
  • Ik vind deze film niet zo interessant. (I find this movie not that interesting.)

Note that "vinden" (to find) is used to express an opinion in Dutch. You can use "denken" (to think) as well. For example:

  • Ik denk dat het morgen gaat regenen. (I think it's going to rain tomorrow.)

You can also use the phrases "ik ben het eens" (I agree) and "ik ben het oneens" (I disagree) to express your opinion. For example:

  • Ik ben het eens met jouw standpunt. (I agree with your point of view.)
  • Ik ben het oneens met de beslissing van de regering. (I disagree with the government's decision.)

Dialogue[edit | edit source]

Here is a dialogue to help you practice:

  • Person 1: Wat vind jij van het weer vandaag? (What do you think about the weather today?)
  • Person 2: Ik vind het te koud. (I find it too cold.)
  • Person 1: Volgens mij is het juist lekker weer. (In my opinion, it's actually nice weather.)
  • Person 2: Daar ben ik het niet mee eens. (I disagree with that.)

Interesting Facts[edit | edit source]

Did you know that Dutch has a word for "enjoying the outdoors while drinking with friends"? It's called "gezelligheid" and it's a big part of Dutch culture.

Another interesting fact is that the Dutch language has many words that are borrowed from other languages, such as French, German and English. For example, "appartement" (apartment), "fiets" (bike) and "supermarkt" (supermarket) are all originally from other languages.
