Formation[edit | edit source]

To form the future tense in Dutch, we use the conjugated verb 'zullen' (shall/will) and the infinitive form of the main verb.

  • Example: Ik zal Nederlands leren (I will learn Dutch)
Subject Zullen (conjugated) Infinitive verb
Ik zal leren
Jij zal leren
Hij/Zij zal leren
Wij zullen leren
Jullie zullen leren
Zij zullen leren

Usage[edit | edit source]

We use the future tense in Dutch to discuss future events, plans, offers or suggestions. In Dutch, we often use the present tense instead of the future tense, especially in more informal conversations.
