Central Pashto Grammar - Conditional Mood

In today's lesson, we will be discussing the conditional mood in Central Pashto. The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or an event that could happen in the future. It is also used to express wishes and polite requests. We will look at how to form the conditional mood in Central Pashto, as well as some examples of its usage.

The conditional mood in Central Pashto is formed by adding the suffix -a to the verb stem. For example, the verb stem for the verb "to write" is نوشته (nawsha-). To form the conditional mood, the suffix -a is added to the verb stem, resulting in نوشته‌ا (nawsha-a).

  • نوشته‌ا (nawsha-a) - to write (conditional mood)
  • خوانده‌ا (khwanda-a) - to read (conditional mood)
  • بگیره‌ا (biga-ra-a) - to take (conditional mood)

  • اگه به دنبال کاری بودیم، ما خوانده‌ا (Agha ba dana-bal kaari budim, ma khwanda-a) - If we had a job, we would read.
  • اگه به دنبال کاری بودید، شما بگیره‌ا (Agha ba dana-bal kaari budid, shoma biga-ra-a) - If you had a job, you would take.
