Η αντωνυμία αὐτός, αὐτή, αὐτό
στην αρχαία ελληνική είναι οριστική ή επαναληπτική. Οριστική : όταν χρησιμοποιείται για να ορίσει ή να ξεχωρίσει κάτι. Επαναληπτική είναι η αντωνυμία αὐτός μόνο στις πλάγιες πτώσεις, όταν χρησιμεύει για να επαναλάβει κάτι που γι’ αυτό έγινε λόγος πρωτύτερα. Με τέτοια σημασία η αντωνυμία αὐτὸς στις πλάγιες πτώσεις χρησιμοποιείται στη θέση της προσωπικής αντωνυμίας του γ’ προσώπου. |
The intended sense of αὐτός, αὐτή, αὐτό
is generally defined by its grammatical context. When used as a lone nominal without an article, it is generally the third person personal pronoun. When appended to a nominal and not possessing the definite article it is "self". When combined with the definite article, either appended to a nominal or on its own. |

οἱ ἄρχοντες διδόασιν αὐτὴν αὐτοῖς En : The rulers are giving it to them. Fr : Les dirigeants le leur donnent. ἀποδίδομεν τὰ χρήματα, ἀλλ’ οὐκ αὐτοὶ ἀποδιδόασιν En : We give money back, but they themselves do not give (it) back Fr : Nous rendons l'argent, mais eux-mêmes ne le rendent pas.
