Singular Personal Pronouns[edit | edit source]

In Amharic, there are three singular personal pronouns:

  • እኔ (ene) - I/me
  • አንተ (ante) - You (singular, informal)
  • ልጆችዎ (lojochew) - He/she/it

Plural Personal Pronouns[edit | edit source]

In Amharic, there are also three plural personal pronouns:

  • እኛ (enē) - We/us (inclusive)
  • እናንተ (enanete) - You (plural)
  • የእኛ ልጆች (ye'enē lojoch) - They

Gendered Personal Pronouns[edit | edit source]

In Amharic, the third person singular personal pronoun (ልጆችዎ) is gender-neutral and can refer to males, females, and objects. However, when referring specifically to males or females, Amharic uses gendered personal pronouns:

  • ልጅ (lij) - He/him
  • ልጆች (lojoch) - They (masculine)
  • ልጆች (lojoch) - She/her
  • ልጆች (lojoch) - They (feminine)

Possessive Pronouns[edit | edit source]

In Amharic, possessive pronouns are formed by adding the suffix -ች (-ch) to the end of the personal pronoun. For example:

  • እኔ - እኔች (ene - ench) - My/mine
  • አንተ - አንተች (ante - antech) - Your(s)
  • ልጆችዎ - ልጆችዎች (lojochew - lojochewoch) - His/hers/theirs

Conclusion:

Personal pronouns are an important part of any language, and Amharic is no exception. By learning the personal pronouns in Amharic, you can communicate more effectively with native speakers and better understand the nuances of the language.
