Culture and Interesting Facts[edit | edit source]
Vietnamese culture places great emphasis on education. Education is considered a way out of poverty and therefore highly valued by both parents and students. Vietnamese people believe that by getting good grades and graduating from top schools, one can secure a good job and earn a decent living. That's why they often take schooling very seriously and work hard to achieve academic success.
In Vietnam, the school year begins in early September and ends in late May, with two semesters and a three-month long summer break. Students have a day off on Saturdays and Sundays. During recess and lunch breaks, most students eat at their schools or nearby canteens, where they can find affordable and nutritious food.
Vietnam has many prestigious universities, such as the Vietnam National University, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Vietnamese universities offer a wide range of subjects, from traditional fields such as Medicine and Engineering to modern fields such as Information Technology and Business Administration.
Did you know that Vietnam has a long history of education, dating back to the 11th century? The first university in Vietnam, the Imperial Academy, was established in 1076 by Emperor Lý Thánh Tông. The Imperial Academy was the highest educational institution in Vietnam, training civil servants, scholars, and military leaders. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of Vietnam's rich cultural heritage.
