Mixquic, a gem among the 21 Barrios Magicos of Mexico City, is renowned for its vibrant Day of the Dead celebrations. During this time, the cemetery transforms into a breathtaking spectacle illuminated by flickering candles and adorned with colorful flowers, welcoming back the spirits of departed loved ones on the night of ‘Alumbrada’ on November 2nd.

On September 29th, we will partake in the First Offering for the Day of the Dead, a unique cultural experience you won't want to miss.

Visiting Mixquic is a magical experience year-round. Explore the stunning monastery featuring a rose garden and archaeological artifacts, all set against the backdrop of a grand cemetery. Stroll through the quaint, narrow streets, admire vibrant murals—many of which celebrate Día de Muertos—discover the nearby canals and chinampas reminiscent of Xochimilco, and indulge in local culinary delights.

The charming town of Tlahuac also awaits your visit, boasting another magnificent monastery, a lively market, additional canals and chinampas, and a captivating local museum. It houses three exquisite pre-Hispanic ovens shaped like masks (subject to availability as opening hours may vary).

Both towns lie within the Mexico City limits, approximately 2 to 2.5 hours south of the historic center of Mexico City, depending on traffic conditions.

Ticket price is 950 pesos, which includes transport and guided tours.

Advance payment is required and can be made through cash at any 7 Eleven store or via a cash deposit at any Banamex bank. For those outside Mexico, payments can also be made using Wise.
