Join us for an unforgettable experience at the Piedra Herrada Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary Express Day Tour. Discover the mesmerizing beauty of the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary, a World Heritage Site that safeguards the over-wintering habitats of these magnificent butterflies. Situated in the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt pine-oak forests ecoregion, just 100 km northwest of Mexico City, this sanctuary attracts millions of butterflies annually. From October to March, the butterflies inhabit a small portion of the 56,000-hectare reserve. The biosphere's mission is not only to protect the butterfly species but also their habitat.

Prepare for an adventure with some practical information:

• To reach the heart of the butterfly colony, we'll embark on a steep uphill walk of approximately 1.5 hours. The location of the colony varies each night as the butterflies search for ideal conditions to survive. The walk will take us to an elevation of 3000 to 3500 meters (9800 to 11450 feet), but we'll take it easy to acclimate to the altitude.
• Remember to wear comfortable shoes or walking shoes, dress in warm clothes in layers, and bring sweet and salty snacks, as well as water.

During this trip, we'll also explore the enchanting State of Mexico.

To secure your spot, please make the payment 7 to 10 days before the tour date. This will allow us to arrange the appropriate transportation for the group.

The tour price is 1650 Mexican Pesos and includes transport, an experienced driver, a tour guide, entrance to the sanctuary, a forest walk, and explanations in both Spanish and English by certified guides.
