Join us on a unique adventure to explore the enchanting Nochebuena / Poinsettia flower market, viveros (greenhouses), and the captivating Chinampas (islands created in prehispanic times) in the outskirts of Xochimilco, one of the largest boroughs of Mexico City.

Discover the rich history of the Nochebuena flower, also known as Poinsettia, which was cultivated by the Aztecs for its medicinal properties. Today, it has become a symbol of Christmas and a beloved holiday decoration. In the Nahuatl language, it is called Cuetlaxóchitl.

Please note that this hidden gem is not located near the typical trajinera boat trips in Xochimilco. Prepare to embark on a truly off-the-beaten-path experience!

Our adventure begins with a captivating guided walk lasting approximately 1.5 hours through the picturesque Chinampas and Channels, where the Nochebuena / Poinsettia flowers flourish. Learn about the significance of this flower in both ancient and modern times, as well as the fascinating history behind the creation of the Chinampas and Channels. As we stroll along agricultural fields and bridges, the vibrant colors of the flowers will surround us, creating a truly magical atmosphere.

Next, we will visit a traditional flower market and nearby plant nurseries, where you can immerse yourself in the stunning beauty of even more Poinsettia flowers. Capture incredible photos and, if you wish, indulge in the delicious local cuisine available at the traditional food stalls.

Located within the limits of Mexico City, the Chinampas, Viveros, and Flower market are situated approximately 1.5 hours south of the historic city center, depending on traffic.

For a glimpse of the breathtaking scenery you can expect, check out this video recorded in the same area during one of our guided walks by our friends from the popular YouTube channel Popurri de Viajes. Although it features Marigold / Cempasuchil flowers, the essence of the experience remains unchanged. Make sure to enable the automated English subtitles: https://youtu.be/xkayJHHrIYE?si=iF-USus72luNLYK6.

The price for this extraordinary adventure is 650 pesos, which includes round-trip transportation for our small group and guided walks led by certified bilingual guides. The excursion will take place from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
