Join us for an unforgettable day tour exploring the breathtaking Piedra Herrada Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary and the charming town of Valle de Bravo. This tour includes a delightful boat ride on the beautiful lake.

Located in the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt pine-oak forests ecoregion in the State of Mexico, the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve is a designated World Heritage Site. Every year, millions of monarch butterflies arrive in the sanctuary, seeking refuge in its over-wintering habitats. From October to March, you can witness this incredible natural phenomenon as the butterflies inhabit a fraction of the reserve's vast 56,000 hectares.

To reach the heart of the butterfly colony, we will embark on a steep uphill walk, lasting approximately 1.5 hours. The exact location of the colony may vary as the butterflies move each night in search of ideal conditions. Rest assured, we will take the necessary breaks to acclimate to the altitude of 3000 to 3500 meters (9800 to 11450 feet).

We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and warm clothes in layers, as well as bringing sweet and salty snacks and water for the journey.

During this trip, we will also have the opportunity to explore the State of Mexico, immersing ourselves in its natural beauty.

To secure your spot, please make the payment 7 to 10 days before the tour date. This will allow us to arrange the appropriate transportation for the group.

The tour price is 1150 Mexican Pesos per person and includes group transportation, an experienced driver, a knowledgeable tour guide, entrance to the sanctuary, a guided walk through the forest with explanations in both Spanish and English, and a visit to the charming town and lake of Valle de Bravo. Additionally, a boat ride on the lake is included in the package.
