他做菜好得很 is correct.
The other should be 他做菜做得很好.

    如果讲His cooking skill is perfect会不会更好一点？原来的翻译理解上是没问题的，语法可能稍有不妥。does it good 用does it well 代替感觉会更好一些。

I'd say they're both correct sentences and the difference between "他做菜好得很“ and ”他做得菜很好“ is just the order of word.
