what's the difference between "mich" and "mir" and when we can use them

I think they are both reflexive pronouns and can be used in situations when asking for help like ''Könnten Sie -mir- helfen?'' (Could you help me?)
or ''Ich wasche mich'' (I'm washing myself).
'Mir' is used in the third case (Dativ) and 'mich' is used in the fourth case (Akkusativ)
