Indem oder sodass?

Hi, I was wondering when should I use "indem" or "sodass" in a sentence. I understand these two have a similar meaning but I don't understand when should I use which. Thanks a lot!

indem implies simultaneity
so dass implies a consequence

I never heard indem before. Reverso dictionary gives this translation :
indem in•dem
1 conj
a (=während der ganzen Zeit) while, whilst (Brit) liter
(=in dem Augenblick) as
indem er sich hinsetzte, sagte er ... sitting down, he said ..., as he sat down he said ...
b (=dadurch, dass)
indem man etw macht by doing sth
2 adv
old meanwhile, (in the) meantime
so dass just means the same as "so that"
