Indem oder sodass?

Hi, I was wondering when should I use "indem" or "sodass" in a sentence. I understand these two have a similar meaning but I don't understand when should I use which. Thanks a lot!

    Indem definite a simultaneous action.
    Indem er seine Hausaufgaben erledigt, hört er Musik.
    So dass/ sodass definite an action what has consequence. You use ”so dass” when it’s a adjective ” du isst zu viel, dass du zugenommen hast” but you use sodass in all normal sentence ” du gehst nie draußen,sodass du dich einfach verloren hast”

I never heard indem before. Reverso dictionary gives this translation :
