I would like to know if anybody knows traditional German songs ... the ones everybody sings when they are a bit tipsy. In England they have "sailor songs" but no idea what kind of traditional songs they have in Germany. Thanks

That depends on where they're tipsy. There are pubs, where they start singing the first stanza of the national anthem or songs like "Schwarzbraun ist die Haselnuß" (which in former decades even the marching recruits in western Germany had to learn), but there are also German sailor songs "Wir lagen vor Madagaskar und hatten die Pest an Bord", preferredly in tent camps. And some bastards like me even know some brits' sailor songs.
