Bonjour, Hello,
On utilise "j'ai" pour l'âge. Par exemple: J'ai 10 ans.

Et on utilise "je suis" pour son nom, sa nationalité ect. En général, quand cela nous définit.
Exemple: Je suis canadienne.

En espérant que cela réponde à la question.

You must use « j’ai » when you answer to the question: “How old are you?”. In English it’s “I’m 30 (y.o)” but in French « J’ai 30 ans = I have 30 years ».
Also when you speak “I’m cold” in French it’s « J’ai froid = I have cold ».

But usually you use « je suis » when you mean “I’m”. For exemple, « Je suis étudiant(e) = I’m a student » etc.
