![]() | Cecile_GMarch 2018 Hi,
As a Native, I would say the main clue is to know that verbs in French are divided into 3 groups The 1st group is the group with regular verbs ending with "er". Ex: danser, travailler, parler, manger, remercier, etc… The 2nd group is the group with regular verbs ending with "IR" ex: Finir, mentir, servir, offrir, partir, etc... Their conjugation is quite easy, the only thing you have to do is to memorize the ending.
The 3rd group is the difficult one, it gathers all the other verbs, not ending by "er" or "ir" and the irregular ones with "er" or "ir". The most common and weirdest in this group are the three following ones: Être (to be) Aller (to go) Avoir (to have), you need to memorize those 3 important verbs, because you can't guess them. For other verbs in this group, there are general patterns, depending on their ending spelling in infinitive. By memorizing one of each of them you will be able to master the conjugation of them all. |
