Are these sentences correct?

Im not sure if I should use imperfait or passe compose:

1.didier  a habité toujours a paris et il a travaillé ou il a vendu troittoir, le journal des SDF. Un jour , il a monté dans le metro. 

2.Un jour son portable a sonné , Il regardait le numero, il a étè  son copain farid. Farid a travaillé dans un théatre.

you have to know how to distinguish between a and à.
À : it's a préposition.
A : verb to have (Il a une voiture = He has a car.)
