say"te" when you dont know the person and "sinä" when you know, it's for polite reasons

    I agree with fineca and chocoraberii. In my opinion, the general culture in Finland allows for rather informal way of speaking.

    I would never use "te" with all the people I don't know, that would just be weird. Like fineca says, it's very rare nowadays. I sometimes automatically use "te" if I'm speaking to an old lady or man in a very formal situation (like work etc.), but even then it's not required.

    Well, "te" is very rare nowadays, you can practically say "sinä" to everyone.

"Te" is more formal.

    You use the pronoun "te" when you talk to an oler person (older than 60) in my opinion.
