Witty has the sense of being funny while at the same time playing with words. Usually verbal but sometimes can be in writing. It’s usually in quick response to something that has just been expressed.

Not all clever humour is witty. For example, a funny sight gag without any speaking is not witty.

An example of witty humour is saying something funny that has two or three meanings (or, if you are Monty Python or Oscar Wilde, 4 or more).
