While I was reading a book about spelling, the word 'major' and 'majority' came to my mind. Why are they pronounced so differently even if they have the same morpheme?
ma-jor - the pronunciation of 'a' is /eı/
ma-jor-i-ty - the pronunciation of 'a' is /æ/
