Catch is to completely get a hold of something on purpose. Grasp is to quickly get a hold of something.

grasp can be used in two different situations:
1- take hold of something or someone very tightly 2- the ability to understand/achieve something
catch: usually in some kind of a race/chase but this verb has many meanings - you should consult an English dictionary for it
