Every is the adverb. This sentence could also be written as such:
I go to school every day.
Who (Subject): I
What (Verb): go
Where (Indirect object) to school
How (Direct object) every day.

In this case, it's not 'Every day' that is the adverb, but it's 'Every', so forget 'day'.

An adverb describes how, when, where or why something happens or is done.
