    • Everybody get out of here!!" This yell made my grandfather get up.
  • In 1945 Japan surrendered to the Allies.
    • Just before that, the Soviet Union renounced Japan-USSR Neutrality Pact one-sidely and attacked Manchuria, which was a puppet state of Japan.
    • My grandfather was working for the South Manchuria Railway there then.
    • He was just an engineer but a soldier, so he didn't have any weapons with him.
    • One soviet soldier found my grandfather's colleague under the bed where he was sleeping a second ago and aimed his rifle to him.
  • "I've found a monkey wearing glasses!" shouted the soldier.
    • My grandfather also hid under another bed, and since he spoke Russian, he soon realized that this soldier would kill his colleague unless he did anything.
